The Epitome of Excellence: What Beyoncé Taught Me About Excellence in Business

Last week, I had the chance to see Beyoncé live at Sofi Stadium, right from the Buckin Honey Pit (Floor Access!). It was unforgettable. Every second felt intentional—from the visuals and choreography to the smallest details that most people might not even notice.

It wasn’t just a concert. It was an experience of care and clarity.

Her 14-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, danced beside her. Her younger daughter, Rumi, and her mother, Tina Knowles, were there too. Watching three generations stand together was beautiful. And then, this quote appeared on the screen:

“I once had a thousand desires, but in my one desire to know you, all else melted away.” – Rumi

This is what I felt from Beyoncé. A strong desire to connect. A focus that brought everything else into place.

It made me ask:
What if we brought just 1% of that kind of excellence into our work?
What would shift if we treated our clients and customers with that same level of care?

From the merch waiting for VIPs to the seamless transitions between sets, even when she changed outfits, she kept us engaged with thoughtful video montages. There were no wasted moments. She delivered on every level.

Beyoncé reminded me: excellence is not about being big. It’s about being all in.

Step-by-Step Guide: Bring Excellence Into Your Business

1. Look at your client experience from start to finish
Where are the rough edges? Where could you add a thoughtful moment that shows you care?

2. Add something personal
A simple note. A thank-you message. A moment of recognition. It doesn’t have to be grand—it just has to be real.

3. Keep the flow smooth
Just like a concert with no awkward pauses, check your processes. Are clients left hanging between steps?

4. Be consistent
Your presence—online, in emails, in meetings—matters. Show up the same way across the board.

5. Align your energy
Choose how you want people to feel after they’ve worked with you. Then make that your guide.

6. Honor what matters most to you
Set a standard that feels true—not borrowed. Then show up for it.
